Sarah Palin, Real Cougar Prowling for $11million book deal

Palin Sarah Palin may be back in Alaska, but she is not about to let go of her time in the spotlight. She has now hired a high-powered lawyer to help find her a very lucrative book deal.  I guess she feels the world hasn't heard enough about her family and her maverick opinions about religion and women's rights.

Some news sources say Palin is seeking an $11 million advance. By comparison, Laura Bush reportedly received $2 million for her story and Hillary Clinton's 2003 bestseller, Living History, generated an $8 million advance.

Immediately after the election, stories swirled that the telegenic Palin might be considering a TV career. Perhaps Katie Couric islooking for a co-anchor.  Don't you think they would make a great team?

In the meantime, Palin, who is halfway through her first term as Alaska's governor, kicked off her State of the State Address Thursday night in Juneau by congratulating President Obama and saying that he is in her prayers.

Sarah Palin - Was She The Right Choice?

Sarah palinOn June 9th of this this year I wrote a blog about Governor Sarah Palin.  I did it because she is a woman over 40 who is smart, confident, knows what she wants and how to get it.  She is a wife and a mother and fights for what she believes in. I wondered if being that kind of woman was enough to get her the VP nod.  And, more importantly if called could she pull in the all-important women's vote that McCain so desperately needs. I guess now we're going to find out.

In my opinion, she is not going to win over Hillary Clinton supporters because of her stance on abortion, her membership in the NRA and dah- she's a Republican. It takes more than just being a woman to win over other women.

Governor Palin is 44 and that's a plus, but her lack of experience doesn't give voters the confidence to believe that she could step in and run the country.

Let's see what she has to say at the Convention next week.  It's time for our country to have a women in the top job, but is that woman Sarah Palin?

Spitzer Caught With His Pants Down

Gov_spitzer Looks like the holier than thou Gov. of New York ain't so holy.  The New York Times reported that he is involved with a very exclusive call girl ring called "The Emperors Club VIP.  The ring rented out prostitutes who charged up to $5.500 per hour.

Apparently it was his cell phone records that connected the governor to the ring. This man amassed a lot of enemies during his career.  It's reported that there was a wiretap setup and that's how he got snagged.  But I wonder if one of his enemies was working to find something to use as payback?  It's very common for the powerful to just wait for the right moment.  It's not about getting angry - it's about getting even.

The thing about Gov. Spitizer is his double standard.  His whole whole platform was about morals and ethics.  Guess Elliot doesn't take his own words to heart.

Obama & Clinton Duke It Out Over Health Care - Is a Universal Plan The Answer?

Health care in this country is far from perfect.  It's expensive and leaves too many people without the care they need. In the States it's believed  that a universal program would be the answer to all our health insurance problems.  Unfortunately, it's not that easy. What has to be understood is there's no such thing as free.  With socialized medicine personal tax rates go through the roof and the standards for your medical care are Obama_clintonseverely compromised.

For the past three years I have experienced the Canadian health care system up close and personal. If that's a model we're hoping to follow it scares me.

Crying: Does it Get Us What We Want?

Crying_2 In today's news it's all about "the cry".  Did Hillary Clinton win New Hampshire because of her emotional reveal on Monday?  Do a women's tears soften the heart or is it viewed as just another tactic to get what we want?

Crying does make you appear more sensitive but if used too often that effect wears off.very quickly.  When women use this indirect method of speech with other women there is usually not a problem - women are by nature more sensitive to picking up on the real meaning.  It can, however be disastrous when used on men.  They like the more direct approach without emotions getting in the way of rational thinking.

When I was at the gym yesterday the Hillary cry came up.  The men I talked to didn't buy into it at all, in fact it was a real turnoff for them.  They all agreed they would never vote for someone who's emotions got in the way of doing the job. Now, I'm not sure I buy into that.  There is nothing wrong with heart. In fact if there was more it around, perhaps this world would be a better place for all of us.

Gloria Steinem Speaks Out

IGloria_steinem_large_2n the Op-Ed page of today's New York Times Gloria Steinem is speaking out on why this country is not ready to break the gender barrier. She believes gender is probably the most restricting force in American life and I tend to agree with that.

The questions she poses is this " why isn't the sex barrier not taken as seriously as the racial one?" I think it's a question all of us women need to spend some time thinking about, but more importantly, find answers that will once and for all change this bias attitude.

Here's what Gloria thinks:

Bioidentical Hormones Protected From Big Pharma

50ish_couple An August 30, 2007 ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Robert Junell is a big victory for patients and physicians who have won the battle against Big Pharma. They will continue to have access to vital compounded and customized medicines, including bio-identical hormone therapy. Advocates, patients, doctors, the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists (IACP), Patients and Professionals for Customized Care (P2C2) and other pharmacy associations stood up to this legislation, and they won.

I want to thank everyone who fought so hard to maintain our rights. Not being able to choose the medicines that work best for us would be a terrible loss.

First Ladies And First Gentleman Battling It Out

The Boomer Spouses of the presidential candidates have taken center stage as we move toward this Rudyjudithgiuliani_2 presidential election. As if, there wasn't mud slinging already. But, we never seem to get enough dirt, so everybody involved in the various campaigns are under the microscope.  I guess it's the "you can run but you can't hide" scenario.  It will be interesting to see how these spouses handle themselves on this very long road to the White House. Paul Harris of the Observer UK wrote this article on his observations.

It is a brutal battle of whispering campaigns, gossip-laced leaks and highly disciplined PR machines. It is a world where image outweighs reality and where any sign of weakness or an unscripted gaffe could derail a bid for the White House.

The presidential nomination process? Not exactly. Instead it is the battle royal being waged between the candidate's spouses. As the Republican and Democratic parties are both choosing presidential candidates for 2008, never before have so many potential First Ladies -- and one First Gentleman -- battled it out so publicly.
