Oprah Gets Into 237 Reasons to Have Sex
I'm feeling very happy today. On August 5th, I did a blog on the 237 Reasons To Have Sex and now Oprah, did a whole show about it.
One of the guests on the show was Dr. Pepper Schwartz. Dr. Schwartz is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Washington in Seattle and is a relationship expert who is no stranger to daytime television. Everytime I see her she has a smile from ear to ear. Now I know why.
On Oprah today she shared with the bi-zillion viewers that at age 62, she is having the best sex of her life. She is divorced after being married for over 20 years and is now exploring and expanding her sexual universe. Here's something else she shared. During a lull in her dating schedule, she calls upon her "friend with benefits". For those of you not familiar with that term, I'll explain. A friend with benefits is a special friend that you not only go to the movies with, but also share a bed with when the urge hits. There are no ties or expectations. Both of you are satisifed with the very special friendship you share. This makes it very easy to engage in the benefits without any of the emotional turmoil. It's -- I love ya with no strings attached.
There was another woman on the show who is 60, and she too is having the best sex of her life.. Younger men are attracted to her because she is beautiful, confident and very sexy. Three other women confessed that they like to watch erotica because it enhances their sexual war chest. You go girls! I am so happy to see that women are finally coming out of the closet and talking openly about their sexuality. It is the start of another sexual revolution and older women are right there marching on the front lines. I am so proud of the Real Cougars.
There was only one part of the show that didn't make much sense to me. It was about a young couple with two children, who seemed as normal as blueberry pie, until the wife said she had a boyfriend. What made this unusual was the husband not only knows about the boyfriend, but is okay with it. He wants his wife to be happy. Well, yeah so does mine, but there are limits to how far he will go to see me smile.
This particular couple have an open relationship, as many folks do, but they are not swingers. Swingers usually hook up with other couples for casual sex and it's usually with strangers. In their case, the wife is indulging with a good friend of the family who she openly admits to be in love with. The friend is also in a committed relationship but when the two couples get together for the evening, the wife and the boyfriend spend the night together in the family guest room. Whew!!!!!! Now, that's stretching the elastic band a little too far, don't you think?
Throughout the program, Oprah seemed a little taken back by the openness of her guests and the results of pre-show surveys that were taken. Those surveys reveal that a large percentage of women are not satisfied with the amount of sex they are getting. It didn't matter what the age, having more sex was high on the priority list.
So once again, kudos to you Oprah for getting women's sexuality out where it belongs, front and center. It doesn't matter if you're 30, 50, 60 or beyond, sex is something to be enjoyed forever.
