Fran Drescher's Cancer Schmancer

I came across this website this morning and wanted to share the their message with you.  I think we all can relate to what Fran Drescher is saying.  Click here for site.  Fran is a staunch advocate for women's health and what you will read below is her message to all women.

I have to talk to you about the terrible state of women's healthcare. How many of us know a mother, sister, daughter or friend who's died from cancer? Everyone I know, knows someone, I can tell you that.

Did you ever hear the joke that goes: A doctor tells a woman patient, "I have good news and bad news. The good news is you have 48 hrs to live." The woman says, "If that's the good news, then what's the bad news?" The doctor answers, "I was supposed to tell you yesterday."

Too many women are being told that they have cancer today, when they should have been told yesterday.

I am a uterine cancer survivor, but was misdiagnosed and mistreated for a peri-menopause condition I didn't have. It took me two years and eight doctors before finally being told that I had a gynecologic cancer. I swear I got in the stirrups more times than Will Rogers!

As the result of this experience, I wrote the NY times bestseller Cancer Schmancer with the hopes that in telling my story I would prevent what happened to me to happen to others. But when I went on my book tour, I realized that what happened to me had happened to millions of women like me. And so it was then I realized the book was not the end but rather the beginning of a life mission to improve women's healthcare in America. Toward this end, I have started The Cancer Schmancer Movement.

Our mission is to ensure that ALL women's cancers be diagnosed in STAGE 1, when it is most curable. Early detection equals survival. It's as simple as that. Through education, legislation, and social reform, we will not stop until the very landscape of America's women's healthcare consciousness has been replanted.

Remember-on the day the doctor tells you that you have cancer, he goes home to eat dinner with his family while you go home to eat your heart out with yours!

We need to take control of our bodies, become greater partners with our physicians and galvanize as one to let our legislators know that the collective female vote is louder and more powerful than that of the richest corporate lobbyists. As Frederick Douglass said, "Power concedes nothing without demand. It never has and it never will."
